About No Eyes Publishing & The Captain No Eyes Book Series

No Eyes Publishing is a childrens book publishing company in Mesa, AZ. It was established by the original creators of the Captain No Eyes series of books in order to publish those books, as well as other products. As explained in the author’s bio below and in the author’s letter to parents, Captain No Eyes as a character was created to help children learn good values from a protagonist that parents can appreciate. We hope you enjoy these books as much as we enjoy creating them, and may they influence all readers to fight the good fight against the evils around them, and even battle against evils that may be in our hearts. Like Captain No Eyes and his crew aboard their ship, The Protector of the Innocent, we can also be fearless, strong and kind.

Letter to parents, from the author

Why I write: I’m  a parent, just like you!

To tell you the reason I write this series of books, I have to begin in the year 2010 when my two oldest kids were seven and five and all three of us were going through a really difficult time, and one night my kids wanted a bedtime story. I, myself, had been reading a book about pirates, so that was already on my mind, and I started to cobble together my own story for them.

Every evening at bedtime this became our routine. As time went, I realized I could use this time and these nightly stories to help my children digest the hardships of the day, disappointments of the past, and live another hope-filled day with the help of Captain No Eyes and his worthy crew. In fact, sometimes a Captain No Eyes story couldn’t wait for bedtime… After a particularly hard evening for my kids, we were driving home and I started to tell them another Captain No Eyes adventure. I realized as I weaved my tale and my children listened that the difficult events of that night had faded into the background as they listened intently, waiting to hear what would happen next in the story.

During the times in which Captain No Eyes tales were told, my kids were trying to figure out how to live in the midst of circumstances over which they had no control which had forced upon them a life they didn’t choose. My son and daughter would have good and bad attitudes, be truthful one day and be dishonest the next, and struggle with choices and challenges just like every child does. As a single father, I used Captain No Eyes to gently correct them and show them how we fight the temptations in life to lie, be selfish, and give in to anger.

Also, I thought up these stories to help my kids not despair or be discouraged, and to stand up for themselves and others. I wanted to teach them to be protectors of the innocent just like Captain No Eyes. Plus, I designed these tales to give my little loved ones a much needed break from a harsh reality as well, and to give them something positive to look forward to, something that let their imaginations explore and taught them about courage, endurance, perseverance, and many other virtues- all at the same time.

In these stories I explain who the bad captain is and why his character traits, his failings, aren’t good for us. Plus, I juxtapose Captain No Eyes and his crew against their archenemies on the high seas (each of the bad captains and their crews) to show which good traits are best to fight those specific negative attitudes/character qualities in us or in others. As I write these words today, my kids are now 19 and 17, and when they were little, rinsing off the really hard days with these adventures of Captain No Eyes using humor and hope was how I taught them, loved them, and helped my innocent children happily drift off to sleep. It was my way of protecting them.

My hope is that this book, and the many that come after it, will serve you and your children as you raise them to defeat the evil both around them and in their hearts and minds, and to fight, just like Captain No Eyes and his faithful crew did, for all that is good.

About the Author: Clint Richardson

Clint Richardson loves being a husband and a dad in Gilbert, Az. The two things he set out to do in his life. This book marks the second book he has written; the first book is on Amazon called Anthony’s Fuzzy Mystery. He also works in the marketplace full-time. His mission with his writing is to continue to produce character-building books through the Captain No Eyes Series that inspire boys and girls towards good solid character virtues. Also, partnering with parents to teach kids to do the right thing and fight evil in themselves and others is a passion of his, as he is a dad to three and a stepdad of two. (If he looks familiar, that’s because he was the model for the Captain No Eyes character, which was entirely an intiative of the artist).

About The Illustrator: Scott Taylor

Born an artist. In 1958, David Scott Taylor was born in the heartland of the United States; Decatur, Illinois. As soon as he understood that a pencil, crayon, paintbrush or even his fingers could make marks on things, he was fascinated to try to make images with them of what he saw in his surroundings and in his mind. The mind of a young artist connected with his eye and the lifelong journey of creative thought and visualization began. Having a father who dabbled in art helped foster his early understanding of how to draw. His mother, who put everything he drew for her on the refrigerator, helped young Taylor revel in his ability to create images and the reactions from those who viewed them.

Taylor believes that art is the window into the soul of the artist. “My paintings and drawings can be the result of dealing with an issue I may be having or a statement I want to make, or just something cool that I see in nature or in my mind,” he says. “Our eyes are the common communication denominator in humans. We may not speak the same language, so we can’t always verbalize with some, but we all see the same things visually. The beauty of this is the possibility of connecting and communicating with someone that you otherwise may not have been able to. And with fine art there is the element of pleasure or contemplation that you can offer the viewer that you are connecting with as an artist.”

Scott has illustrated multiple children’s books throughout his career as an artist and illustrator.
